About
“To my mind, the greatest reward and luxury of travel is to be able to experience everyday things as if for the first time, to be in a position in which almost nothing is so familiar it is taken for granted.”
Bill Bryson, The Best American Travel Writing 2000
Prior to 1999, I had only been to limited parts of California (including a bit of Nevada’s Lake Tahoe area) and to Hong Kong as a very young child. After backpacking for 18 days through Europe in 2003, I realized that there is so much more to the world than I knew… so much more to see, hear, taste, smell, touch… to experience. I find traveling internationally very enriching especially if learning (or trying to learn) a foreign language is a requirement. There’s also something about doing what the locals do, walking the same streets, experiencing similar experiences and wandering off the beaten path.
I’d like to see the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and photograph those moments. One day, I’d also love to take a car and just drive along the eastern coast of the United States. I also have the book 1,000 Places to See Before You Die for inspiration… or daydreaming.
In 2007, I made it a goal to visit an international destination at least once a year and from that, hope to draw a better understanding of the world and life.
I was born and raised Chinese-American in San Francisco and enjoy photography and exploring cuisine while traveling as well as technology, hiking, tennis, and baking.
